Christmas Decorating

With the holiday season upon us, I felt like it was the right thing to do to make this my first post. I love everything about the holiday season. The crisp air, the holiday cheer, everyone just seems nicer and the best thing of all is getting to decorate your home.

With the holidays looking a bit different this year, filling our house with Christmas decor and cheer feels especially important. To be honest, if I could start singing Christmas carols in October without looking like a maniac, I would. No shame.

We went to a tree lot called Clancy’s Christmas Trees to find the perfect tree for our home. There were a couple different types of trees but we decided to go with the noble fir. We were told by one of the associates there that noble firs have stronger tree branches and would hold ornaments better if that’s what we preferred. After circling the lot about five times and about an hour later, we found the one.

We made a couple of stops at Target for ornaments and a tree skirt. I wanted to keep the theme pretty light and neutral so the colors I went for were white, clear, silver and champagne. We also stopped by Home Depot for some green string light.

Tip #1: Use 100 to 150 lights per foot of tree you have. Our tree was about 5 1/2 feet so we used two strands of 300 lights to make 600 lights. This way, you will have enough light for your size of tree and really have it sparkle :)

Tip #2: Instead of wrapping the lights all the way around the tree in a spiral, try starting at the top of the tree and work your way down in a zig zag motion. That way, it’ll be a breeze put up and take down the lights after the holidays.

Tip #3: Use 10 to 15 ornaments per foot of tree if you want your tree to have a full look without it being too over-the-top.

Tip #4: Start with smaller ornaments at the top and bigger ornaments at the bottom of the tree to create more depth. Also, begin with simple ornaments and place the more unique, special ornaments once you’ve given your tree a platform/base to work with.

It officially feels like Christmas in our home!

Our tree had a few extra branches at the bottom that made it look lopsided so we trimmed the branches off. I then used those branches to decorate our dining table. I cut up pieces of the branches and placed them in a few different glass vases, filled them up with water and then put a floating candles.

Voila! We now have a tablescape ya’ll.
